The Evolution of American Space Flight

This space set features 10 vehicles from the American Space Program. First, 5 detailed rockets portray the vehicles that launched America into the Space Age. Mercury Redstone- lifted the first brave astronauts into space. Mercury Atlas- the vehicle John Glenn rode into orbit. Gemini Titan- provided access to space for pairs of astronauts learning to live and work there. Apollo Saturn V- the moonship that gave us that “one small step”. Space transportation System- the Space Shuttle in this set detaches from boosters and fuel tank

Next, 5 historical winged vehicles trace the development of reusable space planes from the 1950’s through the next century. All have moving wheels. X-15: 1950’s hypersonic rocket plane that flew into the reaches of space. X-20 Dyna-Soar: from the 1960’s. “The Space Shuttle that almost was”. X 24A: experimental lifting body rom the 1970’s. Space Shuttle Orbiter: mainstay of NASA’s manned fleet in the 80’s and 90’s. X-38: proposed emergency rescue vehicle for the Space Station. A very unusual find. 10 total pieces included! Ages: 6+
