1970 Apollo 13 Proof Set

Proof Coins from the Year of NASA’s Successful Failure

+++ Only 5 available. Arriving December 29th +++

When it blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center on April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 was to be the third manned mission to the moon. But just two days later the plans to land on the moon were aborted after a service module oxygen tank ruptured. Instead, Apollo 13 became a mission of bravery, ingenuity and survival.

This 5-coin set brings together a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter and Kennedy Half Dollar, all struck at the San Francisco Mint the same year as the Apollo 13 mission and all in shimmering Proof condition. In addition, the entire set will come housed in an 3" x 5" custom display card protected by a clear rectangular case. As an added bonus you’ll also receive an Apollo 13 reproduction mission patch, featuring the golden chariot of the Sun god Apollo as it races around the Moon.

The Apollo 13 mission is regarded today as a “successful failure” because NASA was able to bring astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise safely home. These are the proof versions of America’s circulating coins from 1970 when the courage and skill of NASA turned disaster into success. Honor our American heroes of the Apollo program and secure yours today.
