Tin has a silvery color and is soft enough to be cut with little force. When combined with copper it can create bronze as well as create pewter when combined with different elements. Tin is used commonly for food packaging in tin cans as well as a protective coating for other metals. When a piece of tin is bent, it is said that one hears the “tin cry” from the twinning of the crystals.
