Tank Mountains Meteorite
Tank Mountains Meteorite
In 2010, Joe King was prospecting in the Tank Mountains between Yuma and Gila Bend in Arizona when he found ten meteorite fragments. The meteorites weighed a total of 8.05 kilograms and fit together, like a puzzle. Some specimens exhibited remnant fusion crust and appeared to be stained with an orange color. Slices of the Tank Mountains meteorite reveal an interior speckled with an even distribution of metal grains, chondrules, and shock veins that wind across the surface.
