STS-62A Mission Patch

NEW RELEASE! July 2022

Reproduction of this design from the source material was guided by David T. Pinson working with Justin Shaw and the AB Emblem design team.

This is our best effort of a reproduction of this patch design, based on a crew photograph from late 1985 or early 1986 that includes this design on a cake.  This mission would have marked the first launch of the space shuttle from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California and the first flight of astronauts into polar orbit.  The primary mission - in addition to validating the new facility and launch profile - was to deploy the Teal Ruby infrared satellite for the Department of Defense.  This mission, along with space shuttle launches from the west coast, was canceled following the Challenger disaster in January 1986.  The Teal Ruby satellite can be seen on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH.

If STS-62A had flown as planned, the flight details would have been:

Launch Date: July 15, 1986

Launch Vehicle: Discovery

Crew:

Commander: Robert L. Crippen

Pilot: Guy S. Gardner

Mission Specialists: Richard M. Mullane, Jerry L. Ross, Dale A. Gardner

Payload Specialists: Edward C. Aldridge, Jr, Brett Watterson

The Space Store ships packages every business day. We ship worldwide and use US Postal and UPS. We pass on our discounted US Postal and UPS rates to you. We further have set the International US Postal Rates 20% below that rate, to help with shipping costs. All International shipments may have customs, duties or taxes added, to your order. The recipient of the package is responsible for these costs. Please contact your local customs or Postal Authorities, to know what these fees may be. Some of our products are shipped directly from the supplier to our customers. Depending on the location of the particular supplier, the shipment may take up to ten days. For 'oversized packages' and custom models, ACTUAL SHIPPING charges will apply and NOT what the shopping cart shows for shipping. The cart cannot compute over-sized packages. You will be notified what the shipping options and pricing will be.

CUSTOMS / DUTIES / TAXES
International orders likely will have customs, duties and / or taxes imposed on your shipment, before receiving your package. All of these costs are the customers responsibility. We are required to fill out the forms when we ship your package. We ALWAYS lower the price, near or cost, as to help reduce what may be imposed and charged to our customers.

RETURNS:
Returns are accepted and given full refunds, if the item is returned in the original condition received. Refunds are then authorized and made to the method of payment that was made. Special Orders, such as the Replica Apollo Suit cannot be cancelled, once ordered. Art Prints, Astronaut Suits and Models once shipped, cannot be cancelled. If returned, there is a 15% restocking fee. All orders older than 30 days that are returned for any reason, are also charged a 10% restocking fee.
