How did these rocks from Mars end up on Earth? Only one thing could send a piece of rock flying out fast enough to escape Mars's gravity: an asteroid or comet slamming into Mars. Mars's gravity is about one-third as strong as Earth's, and its atmosphere is about 125 times thinner, so it is easier to eject a rock from Mars than from Earth. After orbiting the Sun for more than a million years, some of the ejected pieces eventually struck Earth as meteorites.

All known Martian meteorites are igneous rocks from the volcanic regions of Mars. Shergotty is a piece of lava that flowed onto the Martian surface, while the Governador Valadares meteorite is lava that was trapped underground and crystallized slowly. It only reached the Martian surface when the impact of a comet or asteroid shattered the crust above it.

The Space Store ships packages every business day. We ship worldwide and use US Postal and UPS. We pass on our discounted US Postal and UPS rates to you. We further have set the International US Postal Rates 20% below that rate, to help with shipping costs. All International shipments may have customs, duties or taxes added, to your order. The recipient of the package is responsible for these costs. Please contact your local customs or Postal Authorities, to know what these fees may be. Some of our products are shipped directly from the supplier to our customers. Depending on the location of the particular supplier, the shipment may take up to ten days. For 'oversized packages' and custom models, ACTUAL SHIPPING charges will apply and NOT what the shopping cart shows for shipping. The cart cannot compute over-sized packages. You will be notified what the shipping options and pricing will be.

CUSTOMS / DUTIES / TAXES
International orders likely will have customs, duties and / or taxes imposed on your shipment, before receiving your package. All of these costs are the customers responsibility. We are required to fill out the forms when we ship your package. We ALWAYS lower the price, near or cost, as to help reduce what may be imposed and charged to our customers.
